Mental health doesn't just touch one person- it touches us all.
Mental health is a critical issue. Affecting millions of people worldwide, mental health takes form in many different ways and forms, including anxiety disorders, depression, eating disorders, and post-traumatic stress disorder, among so many more. Mental Health Disorder is a general term for health conditions that can significantly change thinking, emotions, and behavior. Each one of those million people affected worldwide makes a difference in this life.
Thumbs Up for Mental Health is a nonprofit organization committed to helping those suffering from mental health disorders find resources. Among various programs, including Cheer Bags® (act of kindness with mental health tools and resources), Smiles for Seniors, or Youth Mental Health Awareness and Prevention, Thumbs Up also offers support to bereaved families and friends who have lost a loved one to suicide.
Thumbs Up holds an annual race event each September to raise funds and awareness for mental health and resources. Hundreds of people sign up to bike, run, or walk the 5K or 10K course in support of Suicide Prevention Month and to honor the memory of loved ones. The event is filled with various activities, such as kindness rock painting and mindfulness sessions, access to mental health and wellness vendors all on-site, and a grief support tent and memorial area.
Nelson-Jameson had the opportunity to contribute a matching employee donation for this annual event. Knowing that mental health disorders can affect anyone, no matter their age or gender, income, or where they live. Mental health does not discriminate, making awareness and support more significant. Resources and treatment plans can offer individuals a means to return to better health and well-being. Mental health awareness helps to remove the stigma and encourages people to seek treatment.

The Nelson-Jameson Foundation (NJF) is focused on supporting philanthropic organizations that enhance our core value as a Golden Rule Company. Grants are targeted toward charitable programs that are related to the food and dairy industries or support charities that are important to Nelson-Jameson employees and the communities in which they reside.
