Nelson-Jameson champions OSHA Safe + Sound Week all-year-round.

August 12-18 is OSHA Safe + Sound Week 2024. It’s a nationwide event held yearly that recognizes workplace health and safety program successes and provides information and new ideas for keeping workers across the country protected.

Nelson-Jameson is among the 3,900-plus businesses that recognize Safe + Sound Week, and we’re committed to promoting company safety programs and topics across the entire organization.

As a single-source supplier for food, dairy, and beverage processing plants, Nelson-Jameson delivers ingredients while also delivering a comprehensive set of personal protective equipment (PPE) solutions and expert-curated food safety programs to help keep manufacturers and consumers safe.

But it’s also vital that Nelson-Jameson provides the resources to protect its own team members. That’s why the entire organization participates in OSHA Safe + Sound Week.

OSHA Safe + Sound Week at Nelson-Jameson

Each day during Safe + Sound week, Nelson-Jameson acknowledges one of the pillars of workplace health and safety topics. Here’s a look a each of the themes championed:

Near Miss Awareness

A near miss is an unplanned event that did not result in injury, illness, or damage but had the potential to do so. These can range from minor incidents, such a slip on a wet floor that didn't lead to a fall, to major ones, like equipment malfunctioning that could have caused severe harm. It’s crucial to understand near misses in order to avoid injury. Learn more in OSHA’s “near miss” reporting policy guide.

Heat stress awareness

OSHA Safe + Sound week occurs in the summer, but heat stress can be a year-round issue depending on the environment. Nelson-Jameson encourages employees to stay hydrated, rest, dress for the heat, and watch out for one another. Learn more from OSHA about heat awareness here.

Mental Health Awareness

Employee health goes far beyond physical health. It’s equally important to provide mental health resources to protect each individual’s well-being. Learn more about mental health awareness from OSHA here.

Ergonomics

The impact of ergonomics can affect workers in any environment, and it’s something that the Nelson-Jameson team addresses every day. Among other things, one routine that began at our facility in Jerome, Idaho, is a daily stretching program started by operations director Ty Prude.

“We have a head-to-toe routine to make sure that we’re addressing the head, neck, shoulders, wrists, waist, and lower body,” Ty said. “And a different person leads the group each day, so there’s also a team-building aspect that encourages discussion around stretching and creating good habits.”

Safe and Sound, Year Round

While OSHA Safe + Sound Week is a time to take action and reflect on and recognize the efforts you have made to improve workplace safety and health, it’s important to create programs that are sustainable throughout the year. Here are workplace safety tips from OSHA for ways to develop your own program. We also champion OSHA 10 certification training.
